Karate (Directors Cut)

Just recently, Keiran Watson-Bonice cut another version of Fit Republic's Karate TVC. This TVC is now airing around Victoria. Where this version differs from the original, is the special effects that have been created. Matt Arnold who recently spent numerous hours creating the special effects for the film, 'MINDSEYE' also spent numerous hours working on the Karate TVC. Yonnie Piffen is looking forward to working with Matt again in the future. Check it out: https://vimeo.com/38481367

Tethered - Australian Directors Guild Nomination - Craig Irvin

It is with great pleasure that I announce, Craig Irvin has been nominated for a Best Director award at the Australian Directors Guild, 2012 for the short film, 'Tethered'. In total, Tethered has now been nominated for 17 awards and to win this prestigious prize would be icing on the cake for the good work Craig has been carrying out since 'Tethered' was released in early 2011. Craig is currently working on a teen Sci-fi adventure series called 'The Lost Boys'' with well know Australian Director, Tony Ayres. Craig is part of the writing team and will be directing several episodes at the end of the year. In addition to this, Craig is also co-writing a feature film entitled '20 Years of Snow' that is part of a co-production with a Canadian based production company. Congratulations, Craig and good luck with your future projects.

Birchgrove Property

With YPP's recently revovated Green Screen in full flight and Travis Holt from Birchgrove Property in fine form as actor, it was triumph all around. The YPP crew managed to wrap in just under 3 hours, Travis still had plenty of scenes left in his tank and Birchgrove Property had some exceptionally good footage that will be edited into a fine 15 second TVC. The TVC has Travis explaining the benefits of buying land at, 'Evergreen Links' in Bendigo. Post production has commenced already and the TVC will air around country Victoria in two weeks time.

Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival (Tethered)

Bonjour,

The Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival has finally come to a close and although, 'Tethered' didn't walk away with any prizes, both Craig and I had an awesome time. Over the last 9 days we have watched over 80 short films from all around the globe. It's interesting to witness what themes and stories other film makers have been producing over the last 24 months. My top 10 short films screened at Clermont-Ferrand 2012 are as follows (in no particular order):

POSLEDNY AUTOBUS (MARTIN SNOPEK - 2011) SLOVAKIA

TUBA ATLANTIC (HALLVAR WITZO - 2011) NORWAY

A FABRICA (ALYSSON MURITIBA - 2011) BRAZIL

OPOWIESCI Z CHLODNI (GRZEGORZ JAROSZUK - 2011) POLAND

ARMADINGEN (PHILLIP KABOHRER - 2011) GERMANY

LAMBS (SAM KELLY - 2011) NEW ZEALAND

TETHERED (CRAIG IRVIN - 2011) AUSTRALIA

CALLE ULTIMA (MARCELO MARTINESSI - 2010) PARAGUAY

JAMGYR (AYGUL BAKANOVA - 2011) UNITED KINGDOM

PRTLJAG (DANIS TANOVIC - 2011) BOSNIA

Keep an eye out for these films and these directors.

Au revoir

Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival (Tethered)

After a long and laborious 24 hours with plenty of films to watch on a screen that wouldn't be fit for a convict travelling to Van Diemond's Land and the sound that was equivalent to that from a broken transistor radio, we finally made it to Clermont-Ferrand. Thank you Qantas for flying me safely from Melbourne to Paris but please don't put me on an Air France flight for 14 hours on my return. My backside is still recovering from multiple lashings of pins and needles and I fear my coccyx will be smashed to smithereens if I'm wedged between two obese weightlifters from Nord-Pas-de-Calais again!

Clermont-Ferrand, one of the oldest cities in France and surrounded by a chain of volcanoes is host to one of the worlds leading international festivals for short films, the Festival du Court Metrage de Clermont-Ferrand, in which our short film, ‘Tethered’ screened last night in front of a packed house and was warmly received. ‘Tethered’ will be screening six more times over the next week. A mental note to myself, “When in France, films that are Non-French speaking tend to be sub-titled in French!” Apologies to the Algerian and Egyptian filmmakers whose films were screened in the same block as, ‘Tethered’. Your films looked fantastic but I struggled to grasp what was happening. I promise I will work on my French over the remainder of my trip so as I can offer a little more to this fine culture than, “Deux bieres, s’il vous plait”.

Stay tuned!

Mindseye (The Story of Ronald Phelps)

Ronald Phelps, born August 6th 1926 was a courageous and intuitive fighter pilot. During, WW2 he was the best this country had. Folklore has it that during a secret mission, his plane electrics failed causing him to crash land. Stranded on an island, Ronald made one of the most important discoveries of the 20th Century and with that, the way law operates in society was changed forever. This is the story of Ronald Phelps.

Harley Davidson TVC Shoot 2

The Yonnie Piffen Production (YPP) team made the trip to Bendigo to shoot a second Harley Davidson TVC last Wednesday.

With Steve Jablonski directing and Matt Wood as DOP, the footage taken was of a very high quality and extra special. The client was impressed with how efficient and professional the YPP team operated and they have been blown away with the look and feel of the rushes so far. Since the last Harley TVC has been playing (less than a month), Harley Central have sold 24 bikes. Keiran Watson-Bonnice will be editing and if his recent work is anything to go by, this 30 second Harley TVC will set the house on fire. Tethered, YPP's Film Victorian funded film was also edited by Keiran and his skills have been the talk of the festival circuit of recent months. Harley TVC 2 will air during the month of November. Keep a keen eye on this website so as you can keep up to date with Steve's latest work.

The History of Mindseye

The Mindseye Interrogation Device (MID)is an alien device that found its way into the hands of the Japanese government at a time and a place that is unknown.

It is thought the MID was originally used for purposes other than interrogation but these purposes are unsubstantiated. To describe what the MID is made from would be like describing an undiscovered metal, as that is what it predominately consists of. At first glance, the device looks like a 1930's antique but when studied accurately the switches, levers, handles and electrics are more advanced than electrics of modern times.

It is plain to see that whoever has tampered with the MID over the years or perhaps centuries have also added to this amazing piece of equipment. The MID has changed in line with technological advances.

Harley Davidson TVC Shoot

Filmed at our new studio in Collingwood, it was a cold and early start. This was the first time we had used our studio for a shoot and we were all excited as we enjoyed our croissants and coffee just before 7am.

In fact it was a day of firsts; it was the first time we opened the big door to our studio, (which almost broke our backs). It was the first time Steve had directed a YPP TVC and it was the first time we used the Canon 60D camera for a shoot (we usually use the Red 1).

The Harley Davidson that we used for filming was dropped off at around 9am by a tough looking biker called Mick who told us in no uncertain terms not to drop the bike. You could see why he was paranoid, the bike just looked awesome.

Treating the $35,000 bike with more care than we do our own wives, we did manage to run the battery dead. I was nominated to tell Mick as I had been wearing the crash helmet for the majority of the shoot.

Matt (DOP), Mark (Cameraman) and Steve Jabba (Director) did a cracking job with creating the right lighting and some stunning images. And you can’t film a Harley without recording it revving up, Gunay did a cool job and we reckon the end result is going to look and sound awesome. See for yourself.

You can see some behind the scene images from the shoot below:
